Resident raises concerns about low‑flying mapping plane and potential data center

Debbie Kavka of Independence used the public‑comment period to tell supervisors that residents have repeatedly observed a small plane flying low over Carsonville and nearby farmland. Kavka said the plane is owned by CNC Technologies and that residents are concerned about what is being mapped and whether the activity presages construction of a data center in the area.

Kavka told the board she sees two immediate problems: the county does not have zoning in place for the activity she described, and, she alleged, some members of the board had signed nondisclosure agreements with a company she named (Solaris Arcs). She listed environmental concerns—pollution, noise, water impacts and loss of farmland and woodlands—and questioned who benefits financially from such projects.

Kavka urged the board to prepare now and cited a Southern Environmental Law Center booklet she said could help counties close zoning loopholes; she also asked staff to circulate the resource to supervisors.

The board acknowledged her comment; no formal action on the data center or air operations was recorded during the meeting.
