Director Smith told the Planning and Zoning Commission that a consultant has begun reviewing the city’s zoning ordinance and overlay districts and that stakeholder interviews will begin next week as part of an outreach effort.
"The zoning ordinance rewrite is going to have its own website. It's going to be interactive, and we are excited that this project is finally underway," Director Smith said. Staff will host stakeholder interviews and community information meetings and will also hold monthly check-ins with a steering committee.
Project manager Yasmin asked interested residents and stakeholders to complete a brief form to sign up for one of the interview slots; most interviews are scheduled in the evenings, with an additional midday session next Friday. Yasmin said the project email is zor2026@eastpoint.org and staff will send a calendar and signup links to commissioners and others who had technical trouble signing up.
Smith said the consultant team is reviewing the ordinance language and overlay districts and will incorporate community feedback gathered through interviews and meetings into draft recommendations. The project will include multiple opportunities for in-person and virtual input.
Staff encouraged commissioners and community members to participate and said the project would return periodic updates to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
