Staff reported progress on a range of downtown projects, including the 2nd Street redevelopment concept (Orange Avenue to Marina Way), upcoming focused workshops on housing and infrastructure, and an effort to add wayfinding and gateway signs across key corridors.
The board heard that consultants will present more focused workshop formats (tables and facilitators rather than open mic) and that final concepts for Marina Square will be presented to the FPRA board in April. Staff said website updates and emails will distribute materials and invitations to advisory members.
Separately, staff described procurement and rollout of Big Belly solar-compacting trash receptacles and wrapped downtown receptacles with inserts for event posters; the receptacles are intended to reduce overflow and improve downtown cleanliness. Staff also floated an 'ambassador' program—paid or volunteer positions that would help with trash pickups, pressure washing and notifying public works about overflows.
Board members raised maintenance and watering questions for proposed hanging plant baskets along Orange Avenue and asked staff to confirm responsibility for upkeep and irrigation. Staff said they are coordinating with parks and grounds to evaluate maintenance needs and governance for any new streetscape elements.
Members asked staff to continue sharing project materials and to plan a budget/workshop schedule to review project budgets ahead of the FPRA board’s decisions.
