Clerk reads executive nominations, announces withdrawal; Senate refers nominations and recesses until Monday

The clerk read executive messages from Governor Westmore submitting nominations for Senate confirmation and separately notifying the Senate of the governor's intent to withdraw a previously submitted nominee.

The clerk read the letters verbatim to the chamber, including language that the nomination(s) were "submitted for confirmation by the Maryland State Senate" and that a withdrawal had been transmitted "in accordance with Article 2, Section 13 of the Constitution of Maryland." The presiding officer ordered those messages journalized and referred them to the Executive Nominations Committee for consideration.

At the close of the short session the presiding officer recognized the chair of the Budget and Tax Committee, who moved to recess the Senate until 6:30 on Monday. The presiding officer announced the motion carried "without objection." The session then adjourned for the weekend.
