Findlay’s Strategic Planning Committee used part of its review to highlight near-term operational needs: an approved HR hire, recurring IT connectivity problems in a city office, and capital projects that remain on the strategic-plan timeline.
Chair and members noted an HR position approved in the budget that has not yet been posted. "That was we approved it in the budget," Chair (Speaker 2) said; staff (Speaker 5) confirmed the job will be posted soon and that existing space is being prepared for the hire.
Members raised a recurring technical issue at a city office where staff must reconnect to the city Wi‑Fi after leaving and returning to their workspace. A committee member (Speaker 3) said the disconnection wastes staff time and asked that IT investigate a fix as part of modernization planning.
The committee also reviewed capital priorities: three flood-mitigation projects (including a railroad bridge with funding and design underway, and a FEMA-backed phase) and a water-plant expansion master plan. Members were told the master-plan evaluation will be presented to staff (Jeremy) in the coming weeks and is expected to reach the council in May or June for further action.
On airport operations, members discussed the goal of making the airport financially stand alone and asked what level of city subsidy remains; no dollar figure was provided during the meeting.
Next steps: staff to post the HR position, prepare IT problem documentation for repair options, and schedule presentations on flood projects and the water-plant master plan for council or committee review.
