The Upland City Council opened its Nov. 11 meeting with Veterans Day recognitions and presentations from community groups. Lisa Monforte of the Upland Military Banner Program described the program’s history and recognized multiple local service members and sponsoring families; families and honorees received miniature replica banners and blue star flags from VFW Post 10489.
Several service members and family members were named during the recognition, including Corporal Ronald Hojola (U.S. Marine Corps), Capt. Mikaela Larson (U.S. Marine Corps), 2nd Lt. Hannah Silvestro (U.S. Air Force), and Boatswain's Mate Second Class Victoria Monforte (U.S. Coast Guard). Lisa Monforte and members of the program thanked donors and volunteers who support banner placement around Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Council members also presented a proclamation declaring Nov. 30, 2024, as Small Business Saturday; representatives from the Historic Downtown Upland Merchants Association (including Andre Crowell, Carol Ariotti and Linda Tronic) accepted the proclamation and described downtown activities and events.
Council thanked organizers and volunteers for the Veterans Day ceremony and for work to support downtown business activity.
