The Redlands Planning Commission on April 9 approved Conditional Use Permit 606, Revision 2, allowing an 8,060-square-foot multipurpose building and a 141-space parking lot for Mission Road 7 day Adventist Church at 27240 Alabama Street.
Staff planner Jasmine Serrato told the commission the expansion is consistent with the site’s office land‑use designation, exceeds landscaping requirements and qualifies for a CEQA exemption under the "existing facilities" guideline. "Staff recommends the planning commission adopt Resolution Number 1665 to approve conditional use permit number 606, revision 2," Serrato said.
Architect Javier Adrian, representing the design team, said he had nothing to add beyond staff’s presentation and that church leadership was available if commissioners had questions.
Commissioner Wells moved to adopt Resolution 1665 and Commissioner Guskowski seconded the motion. The commission approved the resolution by voice vote. The approval is subject to the conditions of approval included in the staff report, which staff summarized during the hearing.
Why it matters: The addition provides a multipurpose hall, fellowship space, offices and supporting rooms intended to serve church activities and community events. Staff emphasized the project addresses parking ratios required by the East Valley Corridor plan and preserves existing trees while adding new landscaping.
The commission closed the public hearing after staff said there were no written or in-person comments on the item. The action was recorded on the Planning Commission’s April 9 agenda; implementation will follow the conditions set out in the adopted resolution.
