Albia advances Comprehensive Plan with first reading and refers zoning update to Planning & Zoning

The Albia City Council opened and closed a public hearing on the City of Albia Comprehensive Plan on Dec. 7; the city clerk reported receiving no written or oral objections. After a presentation and discussion with Nichole Moore of Chariton Valley Planning & Development, the council approved the first reading of the Comprehensive Plan on a 5-1 vote, with Merle Regenold recorded as abstaining.

Separately, the council discussed updating the city’s zoning ordinances. Chariton Valley Planning & Development offered to assist with the update. Dennis Conley moved and Leslie Hill seconded to refer the update to the Planning & Zoning Commission for further work; that referral carried 5-1 with Regenold abstaining.

The minutes record the hearing as non-controversial at this meeting, with no public opposition. The referrals and the first reading advance the plan and open a follow-up process with the Planning & Zoning Commission; the commission and city staff will carry the next steps forward according to the city’s planning procedures.
