Albia council approves second reading of alley disposal ordinance, schedules Dec. 7 public hearings

The Albia City Council completed several routine items of municipal business during its Nov. 16 regular meeting.

Merle Regenold moved and Dennis Conley seconded to approve the second reading of Ordinance #891 to close, vacate and dispose of an alley; the motion carried 5-0. The council set a public hearing on that disposal for Dec. 7, 2020. The council also set a public hearing on Dec. 7 for the city's Comprehensive Plan after a motion by Scott Kelly and second by Regenold carried 5-0. Regenold moved and Kathy Mobley seconded approval of the Nov. 2, 2020 minutes (carried 5-0), and Conley moved and Williams seconded approval of claims (carried 5-0).

In departmental reports, City Attorney Bob Breckenridge said wage negotiations for supervisors were progressing and noted the police department reopening candidate testing after all applicants reportedly failed the last testing; Chief Brad Evinger planned new testing on Dec. 4. Hydro-Clean work was expected to finish by the end of the week and the city will advertise for a wastewater operator. Mayor Richard Clark announced that Scott Kelly had resigned from the Cemetery Board effective Nov. 13, leaving two vacancies.
