At its Feb. 1 meeting the Albia City Council voted unanimously to refer requests for alley closings and street frontage closures to the city’s Planning & Zoning commission for recommendation. Councilmember Merle Regenold moved the referral and Councilmember Brandon Williams seconded; the motion carried 6-0.
The council also discussed proposed revisions to the city’s urban revitalization resolution but voted to table the matter for further research. Brandon Williams moved to table the proposed changes and Dennis Conley seconded; the motion carried 6-0, with staff directed to return when additional information is available.
In supervisors’ reports, City Attorney Bob Breckenridge and the chief of police reported on nuisance properties on South Main and D Avenue East. City Clerk Linda Heller provided council members with a copy of the audit report for review. Councilmember Merle Regenold raised the option of changing from ward-based representation to an all at-large council; the minutes record this as a topic for further consideration rather than a formal action.
