Residents urge council to block vertical mixed-use zoning on Milwaukee corridor and press for more e‑bike enforcement

During the audience comment period on Feb. 23, 2026, three residents spoke to the City of Pacific Council about land-use and public-safety concerns.

Gail Bennett (100 Milwaukee Blvd S.) read a written statement into the record opposing proposed vertical mixed-use zoning in the Milwaukee corridor. Robert Smith (101 Milwaukee Blvd S.) told the council he has lived on Milwaukee for more than 50 years and is concerned about development on that street. Gary Giessen (227 Pacific Ave) said young people are riding e-bikes and dirt bikes on Pacific Avenue without helmets and asked the council to direct the Police Department to place more emphasis on enforcement.

These comments were entered during the public-comment portion of the meeting; the minutes record the remarks but show no immediate council action on zoning or changes to police enforcement at the meeting.
