Capitol Path consultants brief Granite Falls on state, federal advocacy and list of potential grant projects

At the March 4 meeting, Capitol Path Consulting provided a combined state and federal advocacy briefing to the Granite Falls City Council. Kyla Shkerich presented the state-level update covering legislative issues, spending reductions and savings options, and the ongoing revenue debate that includes discussion of a potential "millionaires tax." John Culton delivered a federal update highlighting FY26 appropriations and federal funding activity affecting city projects.

Consultants identified specific projects for advocacy and potential grant funding, noting the Burn Road Wastewater Lift Station Rehabilitation as a project tied to federal appropriations. The consultants also listed potential grant projects for Granite Falls, including Legion Park Plaza veteran’s memorial, water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades, a regional sports complex, community center redevelopment, playground equipment replacement, a school resource officer program, park-and-ride relocation, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Consultants presented an advocacy timeline and a monthly grants matrix.

Council received the update; no formal action or vote was recorded on the presentation. Consultants and staff outlined next steps for pursuing grant opportunities and advocacy activities.
