Bolingbrook board passes $27.2 million levy, abates two bond levies

The Bolingbrook Board of Trustees on Dec. 9 approved the village's tax levy for the fiscal year beginning May 1, 2025, and ending April 30, 2026, setting the total levy at $27,211,935.

Trustee Jose Quintero moved to pass Ordinance 25-048 and Trustee Kelly seconded; the motion carried on a roll-call vote of 6-0, with Trustees Carpanzano, Doris, Lawler, Kelly, Patel and Quintero recorded as yea. The ordinance allocates the levy across the village's funds, including debt service and pension levies for police and fire.

At the same meeting the board passed two separate abatement ordinances. Ordinance 25-049 abated taxes previously levied to pay interest and principal on $21,455,000 General Obligation Bonds, Series 2019A; the abated amount was $1,758,222, producing a net levy of $1,123,178. Trustee Bhavini K. Patel moved to pass the abatement and Trustee Michael J. Carpanzano seconded; the motion passed 6-0.

Separately, Ordinance 25-050 abated taxes for Special Service Area refunding bonds, Series 2018. The abated amount listed in the record is $1,494,622.96, producing a net levy of $3,582,366.90; that ordinance also passed by a 6-0 roll-call vote.

Village staff and the Finance Committee reviewed the levy and abatement items before the board vote. Administrator Lucas Rickelman and Finance staff prepared the supporting materials; the approved levy will be submitted to the state and posted on the village website as noted in the meeting record.

Next steps: the village will file the approved levy with the appropriate county and state offices per statutory deadlines.
