Huntley Police Commission discusses term limits, upcoming vacancy and moves to executive session for officer interviews

Chairman Jim Burgess told the Village of Huntley Police Commission on May 29 that the group should consider term limits for commissioners, name a replacement for Commissioner Dan Maloney (who will leave the Commission in July), and evaluate whether to expand the Commission from three to five members.

Director of Human Resources and Organizational Compliance Chrissy Hoover said she had provided the Commission’s feedback to the Village Manager and noted that "the Mayor, with approval from the Village Board, is responsible for both appointing new Commission Members and determining the size of the Police Commission." The minutes record no formal vote on changing term limits or Commission size at this meeting.

The Commission approved a motion to move into executive session to conduct oral interviews for new recruit police officer candidates; the motion was moved by Chairman Burgess, seconded by Commissioner Dan Maloney, and carried by voice vote. The minutes record that the Commission moved into executive session at 8:36 a.m. and reconvened to open session at 3:18 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m. The Commission set its next meeting for Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.

No formal appointment to replace Commissioner Maloney or changes to Commission size were recorded in the minutes; Hoover indicated the Mayor and Village Board control appointments and any change in structure.
