Fox River Grove officials voted Nov. 4 to set the village’s 2025 property tax levy at $1,214,631, a 3.99% increase from the prior year, after a 4-2 roll-call vote.
Administrator Soderholm presented the levy proposal to the board and noted the village may increase its levy up to the previous year’s consumer price index; the CPI value cited for the 2025 levy was 2.90%. As presented, the levy amount represents a 3.99% increase and staff estimated it would raise property taxes by about $17 annually for a home assessed at $300,000.
Village President Marc McLaughlin said he supports capturing the levy each year because “once the funding is passed up, it can never be recaptured and the accumulative effect is long-term.” Trustee Devin Hester said the village has offset some pressure with utility tax cuts and supported the full levy; Trustee Jennifer Curtiss also voted in favor. Trustees Steve Knar and Andrew Migdal opposed the increase, saying the board could pass on raising the levy this year. Trustee David Joseph and Trustee Kirsten Wall voted with the majority.
Trustee Hester moved to approve the Property Tax Levy Determination for $1,214,631; Trustee Curtiss seconded. Roll-call vote: Curtiss, Hester, Joseph and Wall — yes; Knar and Migdal — no. The motion passed.
The board did not specify additional levy allocations in the minutes. No subsequent amendments or implementation dates were recorded in the meeting minutes. The meeting adjourned at 6:51 p.m.
