Lindenhurst earns Bronze EV Readiness designation; board authorizes staff to pursue NFC smart business cards

The Village of Lindenhurst reported Aug. 11 that it completed the EV Readiness program and earned a Bronze designation from a program sponsored by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and ComEd. Mayor Dominic Marturano announced the designation and staff described additional information about the village’s EV readiness steps.

At the same meeting, staff presented a concept to combine Village identification and paper business cards into a single near-field communication (NFC) smart business card. Staff explained that the card would allow recipients to “tap” the card to retrieve the same contact information as a paper business card plus additional Village-provided resources. The board reached consensus for staff to move forward with the NFC card pilot; no formal contract or procurement action was recorded.

Village Administrator Clay Johnson told the board that the new America 250 committee held an initial meeting to discuss the village’s role in the national 250th anniversary initiative. He also reported that a new contractor was awarded the Lake Shore Drive project and paperwork has been filed with the Illinois Department of Transportation; a start date has not been set.

Police Chief Melinda Linas said the village’s first National Night Out was well attended and thanked residents for their support. She also urged caution as back-to-school begins and noted Shawn White’s work to promote the Elderly Residents In Need (ERIN) program and recruit volunteers.

No ordinance or contract related to the EV designation or NFC business cards was adopted at the Aug. 11 meeting; the record shows staff will proceed with next steps and keep the board informed.
