Kewanee staff begin multi-session update of Chapter 52 (Waterworks)

Public Works Director Chris Berry walked the Kewanee City Council through proposed edits and rewrites to Chapter 52 of the City Code (Waterworks) during the Feb. 23 meeting. Berry said the changes range from small clarifications in some sections to complete rewrites of other sections to improve compliance and align with best practices.

Council discussed nuances of the draft changes and members were urged to continue reviewing the updates and submit suggestions; Councilmember Cernovich emphasized the need for staff to keep working toward consensus so the chapter can be completed. The minutes record that this will be an ongoing discussion until all council members agree on the updates.

Next steps: Staff will continue drafting and circulating revisions to Chapter 52 for council review; no vote or ordinance adoption occurred at this meeting.
