Maywood approves body-worn cameras purchase and security plans for Maywood Fest

The Village of Maywood approved the police department’s purchase of 60 body-worn cameras and accepted a related micro-grant during the Aug. 16 board meeting. Chief of Police Elijah Willis presented MPD Proposal #26 for the cameras (cost $38,650), a draft body-worn camera policy dated Aug. 8, 2022, and details of a $15,455 subaward from Justice & Security Strategies, Inc.; the village will provide matching funds as required.

The board also considered security planning for Maywood Fest, scheduled for Sept. 9–11, 2022. Chief Willis presented MPD Proposal #27 recommending Raymil Consulting Services as the security vendor; an independent contractor agreement and a resolution authorizing execution of the agreement were included in the omnibus package that the board approved.

Separately, the omnibus included an ordinance authorizing a temporary Class E liquor license for Maywood Fest to permit sales on municipally owned property; that license and the festival security contract were included among the approved omnibus items.

The board’s approvals authorize the police department to move forward with procurement and the village to finalize contracts and licensing for the festival. Implementation details, vendor contracts and the draft body-worn camera policy were part of the meeting packet.

The board recessed to closed session later in the evening and adjourned at 10:54 p.m.
