Florence council OKs on-call electrical contract and a renewed school-district cooperation agreement

Council approved several operational items on March 17, including an on-call electrical services agreement and a renewed intergovernmental agreement with the Florence Unified School District.

Staff requested authorization to enter an on-call electrical services agreement with Guthrie Electric LLC using a Fountain Hills cooperative contract, not to exceed $300,000, to provide emergency and specialty electrical services split between water and wastewater budgets. Staff said the contract is for as-needed professional services and not a single-year purchase; the contract term was noted to expire June 30, 2030. Councilmember Maldonado moved to approve the authorization and the council approved the motion by voice vote.

The council also approved Resolution 1986-26 to continue an intergovernmental agreement with the Florence Unified School District for shared use of facilities and cooperative programming, especially after-school programs. FUSD representative Rita confirmed the district provides summer lunches and noted constraints — such as maintenance windows and insurance considerations — that affect opening gyms for public use during the short summer window.

Both items passed with motions and voice votes; the council directed staff to continue coordination with the school district on scheduling and to bring implementation details back to council as needed.
