Lauderhill honors former leaders and civic volunteers, names park for Margaret Bates, presents key to Deputy Chief Alan Siegel

Lauderhill’s commission spent a large portion of the meeting presenting proclamations and honors recognizing long-serving public officials and community volunteers.

The commission unanimously approved a resolution designating the public park to be developed at 4500 Northwest 21st Street as M. Margaret Bates Park in recognition of former Commissioner Margaret Bates’ leadership and support for the property acquisition.

In separate proclamations and presentations the city recognized former mayor Eileen Lieberman (Eileen Lieberman Mickelson appreciation month), Jessica Williams (CEO of South Promo) and multiple women nominated for 'excellence in service' — including Bosie Rosenstein, Kamrun Ali, Janetta Lynn Wells (posthumous recognition received by her son Justin, a Lauderhill firefighter), Chaya Moricef, and Mishka Sahar Ahmad. Honorees and family members offered brief comments of gratitude and historical reflections.

The commission also presented Deputy Police Chief Alan Siegel with the key to the city and a proclamation marking his retirement after 42 years in law enforcement (14 years with Lauderhill); several department leaders and residents praised his leadership and mentorship. The presentation included remarks from Chief Stanley, former chiefs and union representatives and drew a unanimous ceremonial vote of thanks.

City staff said the park naming and proclamations reflect the city’s intent to honor local public service and civic engagement; many honorees asked staff and the commission to continue partnerships and community-based programming.
