County staff presented a series of contract updates and change orders addressing emergency power and mechanical systems across county facilities.
The Clerk outlined a change order with Harris Contracting Services for installation of an emergency generator at Africa Town Hall and the Mobile Food Bank, reporting a $5,523 decrease that produced a new contract total of $161,484. Commissioners noted the county had been awaiting that generator for roughly two years.
Separately, staff described Amendment No. 1 with Smith Mechanical Consulting and Design to expand services for the Mobile Government Plaza cooling-tower replacement, adding mechanical and structural design for a maintenance platform and auxiliary chilled-water piping; that modification results in a net contract decrease of $15,000 to a new total of $199,751 as presented.
The Clerk also recommended assigning P, H & J Architects to provide design, bidding and project administration for installation of emergency generators at critical Mobile County facilities with a proposed amount of $382,000. Commissioners asked how many facilities would be included; staff deferred specifics and said they would provide details to commissioners.
Why it matters: Emergency generators and reliable cooling systems are critical for public-facing county facilities and social-service operations. Contract amendments and design assignments authorize staff to proceed with procurement and project delivery tasks.
What’s next: Staff will provide facility counts and scheduling details for the $382,000 generator architectural work and will advertise or execute change orders per normal procurement processes.
