Officials approved a road closure request for a Juneteenth event planned for June 20, 2026, at Cooper Street Recreation Center and told organizers to coordinate permits and traffic plans with public works.
The chair introduced agenda item 2b and staff asked organizers to provide details about the planned tent and to coordinate with public works staff. An organizer confirmed a tent would be used and said the tent permit had been submitted at City Hall.
Public works staff stressed organizers should meet with Dave Myers to finalize the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan and reminded them that the permit process typically expects submission 60 days before an event so barricade orders and staffing can be arranged. "So if you could get to with Dave, probably sooner than later," public works staff said.
Connie Pang identified herself as representing the NAACP and confirmed the layout would match last year's; public works said no substantive changes were expected. Billing staff indicated no problems with the request. The motion to approve the road closure was seconded, the group voted in favor, and the chair announced the motion carried.
Organizers were asked to finalize the tent permit and coordinate the MOT plan with Dave Myers; staff will process the closure request consistent with standard permit timelines.
