Committee advances appointment of Darien Chun to Board of Water Supply

The Committee on Energy, Environment and Sustainability voted to amend and report Resolution 26-61 (CD1) recommending the confirmation of Darien Chun to the Board of Water Supply.

Chair Wier introduced the resolution and a hand-carried CD1 amendment that corrected the expiration date and referenced the appointment to a vacancy on the board. With no objections from committee members, the chair said the amendment was adopted and "this measure has passed out of committee." The amendment language and OCS filing were identified on the record.

Chun spoke briefly after being invited to the podium, saying, "My name is Darien Chun," and outlining a career in construction and development that included employment at Kiewit, Gentry Homes, Delta Construction, Castle & Cooke, and Royal Home/Royal Contracting. He said that experience on both the development and contractor sides gives him knowledge of the types of water-source and storage systems the Board oversees and that he hopes to help keep housing and infrastructure projects affordable.

Erwin Kawata of the Board of Water Supply provided oral testimony in support, telling the committee the board "stands on our written testimony in support of resolution 26-61." Councilmember Tova thanked Chun for his willingness to serve and said she appreciated the expertise he brings to the commission.

The chair recommended the resolution be reported out for adoption at the full council meeting. No roll-call vote was recorded in committee minutes; the chair announced the measure had passed out of committee and will proceed to the council for final action.
