County manager: Dawson County earns finance-reporting award; state commits about $1.7 million for intersection project

During the March 19 work session, the county manager reported routine items in the board packet and highlighted two announcements for commissioners.

First, the manager said Dawson County received the Georgia Finance Officers Association certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting for the county’s annual comprehensive financial report — the manager described this as the 17th consecutive year the county has earned the honor and recognized the finance department and staff (the manager referenced the certificate that covered last year’s report).

Second, the manager announced a state transportation commitment of roughly $1,700,000 to advance a long-pursued intersection improvement on a state route. He said the county had previously partnered with the state and committed some funds and that roughly 80–95% of the project cost will come from nonlocal funding sources, including state and developer contributions; bidding could begin later this summer, he said.

The manager thanked the board and local delegation for assistance in securing the project commitment and said staff will update the board as the project moves into procurement and construction phases.
