During the public-comment period, resident Jay Evans reported that a train had sat on local tracks for about six hours during a recent event, blocking local streets and creating access issues for residents. "I'm really perturbed about that… I'm gonna complain about that until we get some type of resolution," Evans said, identifying himself to the board.
Board members responded that the city has limited jurisdiction over railroad operations and encouraged staff to gather more information about what authority the city does or does not have. A board member noted previous local efforts and discussed infrastructure solutions such as grade separations or bridges used in other metro areas, but said such projects require coordination with regional agencies and railroads.
Staff said they would research the legal and logistical options available to the city, recognizing the public-safety and access concerns raised in the comment.
Ending: staff will follow up with information about what the city can do and report back at a future meeting.
