Trustee raises concerns about wrestling‑team incidents, urges expert oversight of restorative process

A Hastings‑on‑Hudson board member (S6) used board comments to press for stronger oversight and expertise in the district’s response to recent incidents involving the middle‑ and high‑school wrestling teams.

S6 said the board had requested information about the behaviors that led administrators to end the wrestling season in December and later reinstate it, and that the board had been “apprised of this information.” The trustee said two different narratives had emerged — one that characterized the behaviors as hazing and another that described the conduct as not meeting the district’s definition of hazing — and that the district’s restorative justice process had not been implemented with fidelity in past cases.

The trustee asked what systems, training and expertise the district would put in place to ensure serious incidents are addressed with “the rigor, training, and care our students deserve,” and recommended including people with counseling backgrounds, sports‑hazing expertise and restorative‑justice training in any oversight team.
