The Iowa House on March 31 recognized Trans Visibility Day and welcomed Amber Lynch of Des Moines, whom Representative Wiktenoff introduced as a founding member of Feed Des Moines.
"Today, March 31 is the internationally, recognized Trans Visibility Day," Representative Wiktenoff said on the House floor as she asked colleagues to welcome Lynch. Wiktenoff said Lynch’s Feed Des Moines provides mutual aid and community space, particularly for LGBTQ+ residents, and noted Lynch has been recognized locally for her work raising funds for trans individuals who lack access to health care.
The acknowledgment was brief and occurred during opening announcements; no formal action or resolution recognizing the day was offered on the floor. The visitor was introduced to the chamber and the House then proceeded to other routine announcements and scheduling business, after which members recessed for party caucuses.
The introduction and recognition serve as a public acknowledgment of local mutual-aid efforts focused on LGBTQ+ residents and signal legislative awareness of community support organizations in Des Moines.
