The Red Bank Borough Council on a unanimous roll-call vote adopted Ordinance 2026-05, which repeals chapter 562 (sidewalk cafes and restaurants) and adopts a new chapter 475 to create uniform regulations and fees for outdoor business extensions.
The ordinance, introduced on Feb. 26, 2026, was the subject of a brief public hearing during Tuesday’s meeting. Mayor William Portman opened the hearing and the council moved to adopt the measure on final reading; a roll call recorded affirmative votes from all council members present and the mayor.
Council members approved the ordinance after a motion to adopt and a second. The text, as described by the mayor during the meeting, is intended to standardize permitting and fee structures for outdoor dining and other temporary extensions to business premises.
The council did not amend the ordinance at final reading. The mayor noted the ordinance had been introduced previously and that the public hearing on the matter had been held; the measure will take effect according to the ordinance’s terms once formally posted following adoption.
The meeting also scheduled hearings for other ordinance introductions and approved several items on the consent agenda. The council adjourned after completing its business.
