County outlines timeline to fill highway commissioner post; interim to be named after March 13

LRES Director Jennifer Lueneburg presented a timeline for hiring a new Oneida County Highway Commissioner: the position was posted on Feb. 13, the application deadline is March 2 and interviews are scheduled for March 10. She said she will work around candidate and committee availability so the entire committee can participate in interviews.

Lueneburg told the committee that, following reference checks and a job offer, staff would bring a resolution approving the appointment to this committee on March 19 or April 2 for consideration before the April 21 County Board meeting. She also said she will work with Commissioner Alex Hegeman on appointing an interim commissioner for the period after his planned departure on March 13.

Why it matters: leadership at the highway department affects procurement, construction oversight and day‑to‑day operations. The committee prioritized full committee participation in interviews and signaled a desire to proceed carefully rather than rush an appointment to the March County Board meeting.

The committee did not vote on a specific interim appointment during the Feb. 19 meeting; Lueneburg will return with next steps as recruitment proceeds.
