Lycoming County commissioners on Wednesday proclaimed March 2026 as Pennsylvania 4‑H Week and heard from 4‑H members who described livestock, sewing, rocketry and other projects they will display at the county fair.
Alex Armstrong, who identified himself as a 4‑H educator in Lycoming County, told commissioners the program currently enrolls 236 members in the county, has 60 screened leaders and 18 clubs. "We have our enrollment deadline coming up in May. May 1 is that deadline," Armstrong said, and he invited commissioners to the spring kickoff at Trout Pond Park and to meet 4‑H members at the fair.
Several youth described their projects. "I show market goats and market hogs," said Addie Brailsford, a 4‑H member who also serves as county council treasurer. Katie Shipton, introduced as president of the Pioneer Valley 4‑H club and county council president, said her club includes about 60 kids and offers activities from livestock to rocketry and sewing.
The proclamation cited statewide and local participation in 4‑H and encouraged residents to acknowledge the organization’s role in leadership and skill development. Commissioners presented the proclamation and invited a photo with the youth and staff.
The meeting record indicates the board approved the proclamation and moved on to the rest of its agenda. The county’s extension office was listed as a contact for those interested in joining 4‑H.
