Board approves disenrollment of several students after residency hearings

After an executive session on residency matters, the South Plainfield Board of Education presented and approved a resolution finding that families for a set of students failed to provide proof of residency. The resolution lists multiple student identification numbers and states that parents or guardians did not attend their hearings. The board resolved to disenroll the listed students, assess tuition for any period of ineligible attendance in the 2025–26 school year and direct the superintendent to notify families of the decision and their right to appeal.

The chair asked for a motion to approve the resolution; the motion was moved and seconded and a roll-call vote approved the resolution. The resolution specifically cited the executive-session residency hearings and directed the superintendent to take the notifications and appeal steps required by district procedure.

The board had previously recessed to executive session for personal and residency matters, and returned to open session before taking the vote. The motion to add personnel item 12B-16 was also moved and seconded prior to the vote on residency matters.
