Barbara Webster Elementary School staff updated the board on academic and social‑emotional gains tied to targeted interventions, incentives and community partnerships.
Principal Jeff Madrigal and members of his team described a multi‑tiered learning center that this year served 237 students across reading, writing and math with a 39% exit rate from interventions. Staff noted CAASPP look‑alike practice tests (FIABs) and a data‑driven 'data day' process that lets grade‑level teams track student progress and target instruction. The principal said the school met its prior year goals for ELA and math and set a new overall goal of 40% passing for 2026.
Staff also highlighted social‑emotional programs: a newly opened wellness center and a partnership with Stone to Grow that supports weekly student check‑ins and SEL lessons. The counselor reported an 83% response rate to weekly reflections and said student well‑being averaged 3.9 out of 5, with high‑alert items addressed directly by counselors and staff.
The school’s sports and after‑school program presented outcomes, student testimonials and a call for continued funding; trustees praised the programs and asked for cohort data and special‑education breakdowns in future reports.
Trustees asked for more cohort‑level CAASPP progression data and performance results for students receiving special‑education services; staff agreed to provide RSP/SDC data in follow‑up.
