Lexington County Council on March 24 voted to approve a package of routine resolutions, grant acceptances, ordinances and local dedications.
On motions called by the chair, council unanimously approved recognition resolutions including a clearinghouse award for Lexington County Registration & Elections, a proclamation recognizing National Community Development Week in April and a Fair Housing Month proclamation. The clerk conducted roll-call votes for each resolution.
Council accepted committee recommendations to approve grants and budget amendments: the Health & Human Services Committee recommended a $40,000 Homeland Security RMAT award to support the Midlands Regional Medical Assistance Team’s equipment and readiness needs, and the Justice Committee recommended acceptance of a $15,000 reimbursement from the Stanton K‑9 Foundation to offset costs to replace a K‑9. Council moved to book those funds through budget amendments on motion and roll-call vote.
On ordinances and land use matters, council approved Ordinance 25‑07 (third and final reading) amending the Land Development Manual’s section on allowable disturbed acreage and accepted Ordinance 26‑02 approving a contract/conveyance of real property to Cedar Square LLC. Council also held first reading for Zoning Map Amendment M‑26‑01 for property at 449 Saint Andrews Road (rezoning to C‑2 general commercial) and scheduled the second reading/public hearing for April 28.
Council briefly recessed to the Transportation Committee, which recommended several C‑fund sign dedications requested by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, including dedications in honor of Lexington County veterans and naming short road segments for Pat G. Smith and Gus Manus; each request included a County Transportation Committee note that costs for fabrication and placement would not exceed $500 per sign pursuant to SC Code §57‑3‑610 and were approved by council.
Finally, council approved a batch of procurement items (tabs 18–22) and then adjourned.
What’s next: the county will process the accepted grants and budget amendments administratively and proceed with the zoning amendment public hearing and subsequent readings as scheduled.
