The Stewart County Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 10 to adopt the county’s fiscal year 2025 budget of $6,238,435.18, enacting RESOLUTION NO. 2024-1210 to formalize the spending plan.
Commissioner Joe Lee Williams moved to approve the 2025 budget; Commissioner Tyrone Nelson seconded the motion, and the board voted unanimously to adopt the measure. The resolution cites O.C.G.A. provisions governing local government budgets and Stewart County’s ordinance language on budget compliance and allotments.
The budget adoption followed the posting and public hearing requirements discussed by County Attorney Bin Minter and staff. The board also approved the 2025 county holiday schedule and the 2025 regular workshop and meeting schedule during the same session.
The resolution states the budget will be effective Jan. 1, 2025, and repeals prior resolutions in conflict. No further appropriation changes were recorded at the meeting; staff were authorized under the county manager’s budget officer role to make transfers within departments consistent with O.C.G.A. limits noted in the resolution.
Next steps: the county will implement accounting and allotments consistent with the adopted budget; routine departmental and grant reports will follow in monthly financial reports to the commission.
