At the June 11 regular meeting, the Stewart County Board of Commissioners approved multiple contracts, bids and appointments spanning insurance, infrastructure and county services.
Insurance and contracts: Commissioner Joe Lee Williams moved to accept option 1 of the ACCG 2024–2025 IRMA renewal (a $5,000 deductible) with a premium of $155,182; the motion passed unanimously. The board also approved the Cintas contract renewal for 2024–2025 and accepted the Stewart County Extension contract renewal for 2024–2025 with an increase of $144.
Road bid: The commission accepted the successful Hospital Road bid (Oxford motion bid) for $1,558,451.56; the motion was made by Commissioner Joe Lee Williams and seconded by Commissioner Tyrone Nelson and passed unanimously.
Equipment and budget items: Commissioners approved financing a $64,533 balloon payment for a Caterpillar 923M wheel loader and adding an extended warranty. The board also approved a purchase request to buy a camper shell for the EMS/Fire truck, to be paid from the fire budget, following a presentation by Public Safety Administrator Greg Stewart.
Appointments and boards: The commission reappointed Dan Hudson and Darryl Daniels to the Stewart County Water and Sewage Authority Board through 06/30/2027; reappointed Mac Moye to the DBHDD board (term to April 2027); appointed Willie Staten to the Stewart County Board of Family and Children Services; and appointed Adam Griggs to the Region 7 EMS Council through 06/30/2027. The Planning Commission/Zoning Board appointment was tabled.
Public-appearance follow-up: The board voted to create a 10-person advisory committee for Wims Center that will include the County Manager and a representative of Stewart County Community Youth, Inc.; the committee is to report to the commission by October 2024.
