Resident tells Port St. Lucie council a business is blasting music into neighborhood

A resident on Monday told the Port St. Lucie City Council that a commercial property at 2011 Northwest Commerce Lakes Drive is repeatedly playing loud music that carries into an adjacent neighborhood.

"I'm here tonight, to go over an issue we're having with a business ... it's a noise issue," Jerry Grazios said, giving his address as 9324 Avenel Lane. Grazios said the business has placed speakers facing the backyards of nearby homes and plays the same song — "Don't Worry, Be Happy" — repeatedly from about 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., seven days a week. He said roughly 10 houses are affected and that many residents are elderly.

Mayor Martin and other council members thanked Grazios for bringing the matter to the council. The city manager's office asked the resident to provide all available information so staff could investigate and follow up, and the manager directed staff to review the building-permit status and any pending landscape or wall plans cited by residents.

Council members said police had visited the location but the noise continued; several asked staff to check whether the owner's permits and any approved landscape adjustments match what is in place and whether local ordinances on disturbance of the peace or business sound regulations apply.

The city manager's office said staff would contact the resident and investigate, and that police contact logs should be reviewed as part of the follow-up. The council did not vote on any action at the meeting.
