City will temporarily increase yard-waste allowance to help residents clear debris from January cold spell

The city manager told the council the city will temporarily increase the allowable amount of yard waste per household pickup from four cubic yards to six cubic yards at no additional cost to residents to help clear debris left by a January cold spell.

The manager said the increase will be effective March 30 through April 24 and that roughly six cubic yards equates to about three standard yard-waste bags placed together. Staff directed residents with questions to the city's solid-waste webpage (cityofpsl.com/solidwaste).

Councilmembers asked how residents should place debris at corner lots and whether the hauler (FCC) picks up from side or front lots in all cases; staff explained that pickup patterns depend on street routing and that the city will continue outreach to educate residents on correct placement and coordinate with FCC for problem locations. No fee changes were announced; the increased allowance was presented as a short-term measure to help residents manage extra debris without added expense.

The council did not vote on the measure at the meeting because staff presented it as an announced operational accommodation; staff will coordinate public notice and enforcement/collection logistics.
