Chamber and commissioners set process for Hotel‑Motel tax distribution, require annual report

Fulton County commissioners and the Chamber of Commerce Board discussed on March 17 how the county will handle Hotel‑Motel Tax revenue and agreed on a process for distribution.

The commissioners heard from Chamber representatives, Fiscal Administrator Sue Reed and Interim County Treasurer Amy Bishop. The parties agreed a Chamber subcommittee will meet to make recommendations on how to distribute funds after the county receives them; the Chamber will then be required to submit an annual report detailing how the funds are spent. The minutes state the funds will be used to promote tourism.

Commissioners did not adopt a detailed distribution formula at the meeting; instead they agreed the subcommittee and follow‑up reporting will provide the basis for future disbursements. No vote totals beyond the motion carrying "all in favor" were recorded in the minutes.

The commissioners handled the item under routine business and moved on to other agenda items including facility purchases and proclamations.
