McLendon-Chisholm proclaims support for Safe Haven Baby Boxes, honors donors and announces community events

The McLendon-Chisholm City Council used part of its March 24 meeting to read proclamations expressing support for Safe Haven Baby Boxes and to recognize local partners and donors who helped bring a box to the city.

Mayor Brian McNeal read a proclamation describing the Safe Haven Baby Box program, referencing founder Monica Kelsey and the boxes’ design and purpose as an anonymous, secure surrender option that coordinates immediate retrieval by medical personnel. The council also read a proclamation honoring Chief Tanner Dietz of the Royce City Fire Department for his work preparing responder protocols and Captain Kevin Brown of the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office for coordinating dispatch notification procedures. The mayor read a donor list that included Lake Point Church and Pastor Josh Howerton, and several individual donors who assisted with funding and logistics.

During the meeting Tony Crawford announced a public candidate forum to be held Thursday, March 26 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at City Hall. Councilmember Fabrice announced the McLendon-Chisholm egg-drop event scheduled for Saturday (11 a.m.–2 p.m. behind City Hall) and a farewell lunch for Mayor Brian McNeal on April 11 (11 a.m.–1 p.m.) at the fire station, with lunch provided by Sonic and the fire department.

The proclamations and community announcements were ceremonial and informational; no formal binding action was taken related to the Safe Haven Baby Box during the meeting.
