Chamber subcommittee to recommend Hotel/Motel tax distribution; annual reporting required

Commissioners met with the Chamber of Commerce board on March 17 to discuss procedures for distributing Hotel/Motel tax revenue collected at the county level.

The Chamber agreed to form a subcommittee that will develop recommendations for allocating funds once the county receives them; according to the minutes, the county will allow a 60‑day period after receipt before the Chamber acts. The Chamber will be required to submit an annual report detailing how Hotel/Motel tax dollars were spent. Fiscal Administrator Sue Reed and Interim County Treasurer Amy Bishop attended the discussion.

Commissioners said the funds will be used to promote tourism in the county. No formal expenditure decisions were recorded at the meeting; the discussion established the reporting and recommendation process for future distributions.
