Todd and Theresa Kramer told the Butler County Board of Supervisors on March 17 that noise from a neighboring property is "unbearable," saying sound measurements reached about 149 decibels at their back door. The Kramers raised the issue during the public-comment portion of the supervisors' meeting.
Attorney Dave Kuehner advised the couple that a civil injunction could be a remedy and said he would review Iowa Code chapter 657 on nuisances, then follow up with the Kramers. "I will investigate Iowa Code 657 and get back to you," Kuehner said, according to the meeting minutes.
Butler County Sheriff Johnson told the board there have been no concerns reported to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) regarding the site. Chair Greg Barnett asked whether the property might qualify as a shooting range under Iowa Code 657.9, which could affect how the nuisance is classified.
Supervisor Rusty Eddy suggested the Kramers check with nearby neighbors to determine whether others are experiencing similar disturbance. The board did not vote on any enforcement action during the meeting; Kuehner's review and any subsequent legal steps were presented as the next steps.
The complaint remains unresolved pending the attorney's review and any follow-up from county law enforcement or formal legal action.
