The Barnesville City Council on Sept. 21 unanimously adopted the 2015 2016 operating budget and set the city millage rate at 4.155 mills.
The action followed a Sept. 14 public hearing at which no members of the public spoke; City Manager Kenneth D. Roberts read Ordinance No. 548 and explained that the proposed budget was $100,000 less than the prior fiscal year. Council approved the ordinance at a special called meeting on Sept. 21.
Roberts presented the budget and the accompanying millage ordinance during the Sept. 14 public hearing; Mayor Peter L. Banks presided over both sessions. The council held no further public comment before the vote.
Adoption of Ordinance No. 548 finalizes the city's spending plan for fiscal 2015 2016 and fixes the property tax rate the city will levy. The minutes record the council's unanimous approval at the special meeting. The council did not amend figures at adoption and did not record any dissenting votes.
The decision completes the statutory budget process for the fiscal year and places the adopted millage and budget into the city record. The council indicated the measure will guide city spending and staffing levels for the coming year.
