Mark Stacy, a Charleston-based certified public accountant who said he works for Southern Diversified Distributors and William Byrd and Company, was reported favorably by the Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee for an initial appointment to the JETA board.
Committee Chair opened the appointment by asking Mr. Stacy to be sworn in and requesting background materials; Rebecca, committee staff, told members she had reviewed Stacy’s personal data questionnaire, statement of economic interest, SLED background check, credit report and driving record and found them complete. Stacy told the committee he learned about the opening from Jesse Smith, the executive director of JETA, and said he wants to help organizations across the state access tax-exempt bonds and serve as a community resource in Charleston.
During brief questioning, Stacy said he is not a lobbyist, has no knowledge of disqualifying circumstances, and understands the responsibilities of the board. Senator from Edgefield thanked him for his willingness to serve and asked how he would approach the role; Stacy emphasized outreach to banks and community organizations to raise awareness of JETA’s financing options.
With no further discussion, the committee moved and voted to report the appointment favorably. The chair thanked Mr. Stacy for agreeing to serve. The committee did not record a roll-call vote by name in the transcript; staff indicated documents and checks had been reviewed and found in order.
The committee’s favorable report sends Stacy’s nomination to the next stage of confirmation.
