Tamarac honors four community leaders in Women’s History Month celebration

Mayor Michelle J. Gomez opened the March 11 meeting with a pledge, then invited commissioners to present Women’s History Month proclamations recognizing local leaders across Tamarac’s districts.

Vice Mayor Marlyn D. Bolton presented a proclamation honoring Dr. Sharita Remicki, citing her work on maternal and child health and community engagement; Dr. Remicki accepted the recognition and thanked the city for the honor.

Commissioner Maury Wright recognized Pastor Michelle Alexander for more than 25 years of community leadership and mentoring, highlighting her violence‑prevention and youth‑engagement work. Commissioner Crystal Patterson honored Sharon Jacobs for sustained neighborhood leadership and stewardship in the Kings Point senior community. Commissioner Keisha Daniel presented an award to Seema (Sima) Lakani for her work in memory care and founding Parkside Memory Care in Tamarac; Lakani described the emotional rewards of serving residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Vice Mayor Bolton also presented the City of Tamarac Medal of Honor to several community heroes—residents whose behind‑the‑scenes stewardship the commission said strengthens neighborhoods—and the group joined commissioners for a photo.

The presentations took place before the regular business agenda, and commissioners thanked staff and volunteers who helped organize the ceremony.

The commission recessed briefly and returned at 8:25 p.m. to continue the meeting.
