Chairman Roberts opened a confirmation hearing on March 26 for two nominees to the State Board of Stock Inspection Commissioners and asked State Brand Commissioner Todd Ingley to introduce them. Ingley described the division’s mission and workload, saying brand inspectors focus largely on reuniting stray animals with owners and that "last year, we were able to return to their proper owners 57,754 animals," a statistic he presented to illustrate the program’s preventative work.
Loreen Bonds of La Plata County spoke virtually and identified herself as a fourth-generation rancher and a current member of the Colorado brand board seeking a second term. She listed local roles including livestock superintendent and positions on water and ditch boards, and said she previously served as president of the Colorado Independent Cattle Growers Association.
Jody Martin Witt introduced herself as the equine representative and executive director of the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association. She described industry roles, volunteer service with 4-H and the Colorado State University equine advisory committee, and said she looks forward to serving on the brand commission to help educate and ensure compliance with state rules.
Senator Hendrickson moved to send the nominations to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation. The committee recorded an aye vote and the motion passed unanimously; Chairman Roberts placed both nominations on the consent calendar. No committee questions were recorded after the introductions and the committee adjourned the nominations portion of its agenda.
