The mayor of Brentwood proclaimed March 28, 2026, as Arbor Day and urged residents to protect the city's trees and woodlands. Lynn Tucker, chair of the Brentwood Tree Board, told commissioners volunteers had bagged about 2,000 seedlings and described a family event at the Brentwood library on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. that will include free seedlings, educational booths, hot dogs and ice cream.
Tucker said the tree board will distribute seedlings to local schools so third and sixth graders each receive a tree. She listed the tree species available this year — bur oak and Shumard oak — and added native pecans and bald cypress among the selection; she also reported the board received an extra donation of about 200 trees (100 beech and 100 dogwood) from Warner Parks after storm damage reduced that group's planting capacity.
Commissioners praised the tree board's volunteer turnout and highlighted related upcoming events: a scavenger hunt route tied to the Arbor Day activities, a pruning seminar on April 18 at 10 a.m. at the library amphitheater, and a June 13 tree talk at Deerwood. The mayor and commissioners encouraged residents to replant and to attend the instructional sessions on proper pruning and tree care.
The proclamation and public remarks closed with plans to display the proclamation at the library and a brief photo opportunity for board members.
