At a March 9 staff agenda review, staff walked through several items the city commission will consider on March 11, including presentations and policy items that will require direction or votes.
Moderator said Mayor Steve Bridal Crews of the Town of Southwest Ranches will present the current status of the Solid Waste Authority and next steps; the commission will need to decide in the coming months whether to continue participation in the joint South Broward solid waste authority or remain absent. The moderator also previewed a Colliers International solicitation and presentation related to redevelopment of the municipal complex and public services complex that includes a discussion of a campus solar station.
Staff flagged an agenda item (11c) to rescind prior commission action dated April 23 concerning a speed detection system for school zones. The moderator said the commission will “reconsider” the speed-detection system at the Wednesday meeting. Staff also previewed a second reading of maintenance standards to give code enforcement additional tools aimed at beautification of commercial properties, a request to amend on-street parking policy (add mainland Section 6 to restricted neighborhoods), and a Sister Cities Committee presentation on establishing a formal sister-city partnership.
Staff listed several advisory-committee appointments and a proposed ambassador liaison appointment of Vice Mayor Martin Bolton to the city's 'Yard on the Lawn' music festival. These items were presented as agenda previews; no commission votes or outcomes were recorded during the staff meeting.
