The Council of the District of Columbia on Dec. 2 confirmed six nominees to the Commission on Human Rights in a single, unanimous vote.
Councilmember Nadeau presented the block of confirmation resolutions and summarized each nominee’s experience, including work on hate‑crimes prevention, public defense, education and human‑rights advocacy. The nominees included Sim Singh Buttarawala; Alexis Gardner; Carmen Moreno Sanz; Sean Norman; Jasmine Lee Scott; and Isabelle Vladeau. The Council’s General Counsel certified the measures were legally and technically sufficient, and the Budget Director said confirmation resolutions carried no fiscal impact.
The confirmation was approved en bloc by voice vote with no objections. The Council recorded that committee review had taken place; Nadeau said the Committee on Public Works and Operations approved the nominees earlier in November.
The action places the six nominees on the Commission on Human Rights, which advises the District government on civil‑rights enforcement and discrimination complaints. The measure was procedural and did not generate further debate; the Council moved on to other agenda items.
