The North Port City Commission voted 5-0 Tuesday to adopt Resolution 2026-R-12, authorizing the city to purchase a parcel on Nimbus Drive to secure permanent southern access to Retention Ditch Number 146 for maintenance, rehabilitation and emergency operations.
City Manager Fletcher told the commission, "The Department of Public Works is seeking to purchase the property located along with Retention Ditch Number 146," saying the acquisition would provide necessary access that existing city-owned parcels on the north side do not supply. Fletcher said the property was appraised at a market value of $50,000 and is being offered to the city for $55,000.
City Clerk Voskin Faust read the resolution into the record before the presentation. After brief questions from commissioners, the mayor closed the public hearing and announced a motion "made by Commissioner Duvall, seconded by Commissioner Stokes." The commission then approved the resolution unanimously, 5-0. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
The resolution authorizes the city to proceed with purchase and filing of related documents; the commission did not record amendments or conditions tied to the approval. The purchase is intended to ensure the city's Public Works staff has reliable access for routine and emergency ditch work. The commission moved on to the next agenda items following the vote.
