The Saint John Park and Recreation Board approved multiple 2026 independent contractor agreements on March 17 and amended the interim event coordinator contract to limit its term.
The board unanimously approved contractor agreements for program counselors (Anna Kulig, Brianna Rodriguez, Emily Nanes), volleyball referees (Aubrey Hester, Elena Gomala), class and program instructors (Jesse Hernandez, Melanie Glassworks, Marco Perez, Patty's All American) and a Farmers Market musician (Daniel Cole Daley). Staff said the counselors will support summer camps and other town events as needed.
Separately, the board discussed the event coordinator contract for Brooke Bain. Staff explained Bain has been handling community center bookings and training a replacement; members expressed concern that the contract language referencing 2026 could be read to authorize the full year rather than a short-term transition. Board members proposed limiting the extension to the end of March. A motion to amend the contract so Bain's agreement continued through March 31 was made, seconded and approved 3-0.
During the discussion, staff said the coordinator is paid $3,000 per month and that the presented contract, as written, terminated on April 30, 2026; the board chose a March 31 end to avoid an unintended year-long commitment. The board recorded the motions as unanimous and asked staff to manage the transition to the incoming director.
